Awami League presidium member Matia Chowdhury passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).

She died on Wednesday (October 16, 2024) afternoon while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

82-year-old Matia Chowdhury was ill for several days. Hospital authorities say that Matia Chowdhury died around 1 pm.

Matia Chowdhury served as the Agriculture Minister during the Awami League regime in 1996, 2009 and 2013.

She was last serving as No. 1 presidium member of Awami League.

After the 12th National Parliament election, she took charge as the Deputy Leader of the National Parliament.
