Nationalist Lawyers Forum has demanded the withdrawal of all cases filed against BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman. BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Zainal Abedin, president of Nationalist Lawyers Forum, said that many lawyers were injured and martyred by actively participating in the student movement. Many have been victims of harassment and false cases.

Although the Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum is the largest professional organization in the country, we have united other lawyers’ organizations to form the United Lawyers Front. I have actively contributed to the movement to overthrow the alleged occupying government. He said these things at the emergency press conference of the Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum at the Supreme Court in Dhaka on Monday (October 14, 2024).

At the beginning of his speech, he paid tribute to the martyrs and injured in the students’ movement. Meanwhile, Zainal Abedin also said that the current interim government is very slow in taking various decisions and there is opacity in some areas. Law department is an important department. The responsibility of this department is immense. The rule of law, human rights and democracy depend on the officers of this department. But we regret to note that this department is not able to discharge its duties with due transparency due to undue interference of some. So our claim law department will perform its duty with utmost transparency.

In that case we will have all kinds of cooperation. We note with deep concern that the interim government is not valuing the role of lawyers properly. It is very sad. A commission has been constituted for judicial reform. The committee formed under the leadership of Justice Shah Abu Naeem has created confusion among the people that all the lawyer members have been included in the committee without taking the opinion of the members of the judiciary including senior lawyers. I hope that necessary measures will be taken soon to remove this confusion.

We are ready to provide all possible assistance in this regard. At present, the people of the country are observing with deep concern the favoritism and nepotism in the transfer and appointment in the law courts and related ministries. Which is unacceptable and unintended. This kind of nepotism is questioning the ideological values ​​in the anti-discrimination student movement due to biased decisions.
He said that the fascists should be removed from the judiciary immediately.

He also said that all government strategists appointed during the previous government should be canceled and government strategists should be appointed immediately. At the time, he demanded to withdraw all the cases filed against BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman. Otherwise, the legal society will be forced to take to the streets again. At the same time, he demanded that Sheikh Hasina, the fugitive accused of the July genocide, should be brought to the country to face trial. He said that our demand is that the current interim government will quickly complete the necessary reforms and announce the roadmap for the return of democracy to the country.
