Broadcasting News Corporation : US Customs and Border Protection agents notched the largest meth seizure in the history of a Southern border port when they seized nearly $12 million in drugs earlier this month.
The record-breaking bust at the Del Rio Port of Entry – valued at $11.9 million – was found inside a tractor-trailer that had an astounding 320 packages with 1,337 pounds of alleged meth inside, the agency said in a news release Wednesday. The Sept. 5 discovery at the Del Rio International Bridge unfolded when the tractor-trailer – hauling a shipment of diesel tank reservoir containers – went through a secondary inspection, according to the agency. A non-intrusive inspection using dogs was carried out, leading to the bust. Port Director Liliana Flores declared the seizure “reflects the steadfast commitment of our officers to the CBP border security mission and their effective application of technology, training and experience.” More information wasn’t released while the Department of Homeland Security investigates. The bust comes amid sharp criticism from Texas sheriffs over President Biden’s border policy, with one lawman telling The Post thousands of pounds of fentanyl pouring into the US are causing “quite frankly a tsunami of death.” The border has been an ongoing issue for the Biden administration. Last month the border agency said the number of migrants arrested while trying to cross into the US already exceeded last year’s record – and was on pace to surpass 2 million for the first time in the fiscal year ending in September.
