Australian High Commissioner meets Agriculture Adviser

Australia’s Acting High Commissioner Nardia Simpson met Agriculture Adviser Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) in his office room in the Ministry on Sunday (10 November 2024 AD).
During the meeting, the adviser and acting high commissioner discussed various issues including agriculture, export of agricultural products, technical training, research, export of skilled labor force in the agricultural sector and Rohingya.

Agriculture adviser said, our friendship with Australia is long. It is possible to increase trade relations between the two countries. Export of agricultural products especially vegetables and mangoes can be increased. Australia’s agricultural sector is vast. So taking skilled workers from our country can be considered positively. The adviser requested the Acting High Commissioner to provide higher education opportunities in Australia through scholarships for agricultural researchers. He also expects cooperation in technical training.

Noting that the Rohingya population forcibly displaced from Myanmar is gradually increasing, the advisor called for increasing cooperation in this regard and also taking some number of Rohingya to Australia.

The High Commissioner expressed his country’s interest in importing agricultural products and requested to ensure the quality of products by refining them according to specific protocols. The High Commissioner said that he will work to increase cooperation in agricultural research and technical training.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Home Affairs were present.
