Adviser on Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Sharmeen S. Murshid said that after the interim government took over, the release of the migrants was possible. Such achievements send a message to the migrants that the Bangladesh government is on their side. The advisor said this in his speech as the chief guest at the seminar titled ‘Voices of Resilience: Empowering Bangladesh Migrant Workers’ at Dhaka World Literature Center on Saturday (November 09, 2024).
The adviser said that women’s development is involved in the work of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women and Child Affairs. For this reason, policies should be adopted through a planned plan for the development of migrant women workers. The interests of women will be protected if they have to cooperate at the airport to get rid of harassment while traveling abroad.
The advisor also said that the remittances sent by immigrants have kept the economy of this country alive, we have to think about their protection. I want to work with everyone with new enthusiasm to enrich the country and build a new Bangladesh.
In the seminar, the founding chairman of the refugee and immigrant movement research unit. Tasneem Siddiqui presided over the special guest speech by Lily Gomes, Senior Program Officer of Solidarity Center Bangladesh. Fauzia Karim Feroze, senior advocate of Law and Development Research Foundation and ABM Shamsul Alam spoke on behalf of the recruiting agency.
Speakers on the occasion emphasized the government’s responsibility to protect the rights of migrant workers and the implementation of relevant policies. The event highlighted legal assistance to address various challenges related to immigration, development of resettlement system and necessary steps to ensure workplace safety.
