When the Act is repealed all harassment cases relating to speech offenses will be extinguished. Those who are journalists, free-minded people, people of different opinion, for their speech, all the cases filed for expressing any kind of opinion will be canceled.
However, the prosecution of cases related to computer offenses or computer hacking will continue.
The advisor said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the Best Reporting Award-2024 ceremony organized by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at the Dhaka Club in the capital on Friday (08 November 2024 AD).
The legal adviser said that the current government is a journalist-friendly government. No harassing action was taken against any journalist by this government. Neither our government nor the police have filed any harassment case against any journalist.
Advising the leadership of true professional journalists, the legal adviser said, a journalist, no matter how much journalism he does, if he continues to openly support disappearances, extrajudicial killings, illegal elections, looting Bangladesh, delegating Bangladesh to neighboring states. Would you call him a journalist if he openly supports a fascist government? Don’t say anything else, think about it.
He also said that there are many journalists who are not under the fascist government. They were on the path of truth and justice.
