Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser on environment, forest and climate change, said polythene is harmful to the environment and health. By December 31, the capital’s polyethylene and polypropylene shopping bag-free markets will be awarded.

The advisor said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the exchange meeting with the business owner association of the metropolis held at the meeting room of the Environment Department in Agargaon, Dhaka on Sunday (October 20, 2024 AD).

The advisor said that traders should come forward to implement this ban. Production, transportation, marketing and storage of polythene bags is completely prohibited. As an alternative, eco-friendly bags with jute and chaat should be used. Government is taking strict action in this regard and we want businessmen to be part of this initiative.

Additional Secretary and Director General of Environment Directorate also spoke in the exchange meeting held under the chairmanship of Environment Secretary. During the open discussion, the business leaders agreed with the government’s decision and gave various suggestions, including stopping the source of polythene.
