Flood damaged river banks will be repaired on priority basis

Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Nazmul Ahsan said, The banks of Maharshi, Bhogai and Chellakhali rivers affected by recent floods in Jhenaigati and Nalitabari upazilas of Sherpur will be repaired on a priority basis during the next dry season and permanent steps will be taken to deal with floods.

Under the instructions of Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Secretary Saturday (October 19, 2024 AD) He said this while visiting the areas affected by the river erosion in Sannyasivita village from Kulpara, Nichpara village temple and cremation ghat area and Chellakhali market of Baghber union, Ramerkura, Brijpara, Nalitabari Upazila North Garkanda Village of Jhenaigati Sadar Union of Sherpur District, .

In response to the questions of the journalists while visiting the flood affected area, the Water Resources Secretary said, I have brought a technical team, in the light of the report of the engineers of this team, immediate and permanent measures will be taken to prevent river erosion in this area. To protect Nalitabari and Jhenaigati from the uphill landslides and floods, All the parts of Chellakhali and Maharshi river banks have already been damaged.

The Secretary directed the officials of the Water Development Board to quickly start the work of removing the char and silt accumulated in the river along with placing geo bags and sand-cement mix bags at those places. Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Water Development Board Enayet Ullah, Dhaka Zone Chief Engineer Md. Asaduzzaman, Deputy Commissioner of Sherpur Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman, Water Development Board Tangail Circle Supervising Engineer Sirajul Islam, Executive Engineer Naqibuzzaman Khan along with local administration and Water Development Board officials were present.
