Farooq E Azam, Adviser on Disaster Management and Relief, Veer Prateek, said that in the light of local experience, sustainable approaches to disaster management should be determined and implemented using modern technical knowledge. The advisor said this in an exchange meeting with government officials at the Sherpur District Commissioner’s conference room on Thursday (October 17, 2024).
Deputy Commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman presided over the meeting. The advisor said that the government officials should work in coordination with the changing situation of the disaster. Commenting that there may be more floods like in Sherpur district, he urged the officials to work keeping that experience in mind.
In the discussion meeting, heavy rains and landslides in Sherpur district at the beginning of this month caused damage to agriculture, fisheries, livestock, roads, bridges-culverts, river erosion, dams, houses, The concerned officials initially mentioned that there has been a loss of assets of about thousands of crores of taka in various sectors including infrastructure.
Besides, the officials of various departments informed the adviser about the need for rehabilitation after illustrating the flood damage in the district.
