The adviser said these things in the speech of the chief guest at a discussion meeting held on Saturday (October 12, 2024 AD) on the occasion of the 16th founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur at the Independence Memorial Ground of the university.
Calling Begum Rokeya University as Martyr Abu Saeed University, the advisor said, it is very fortunate to be able to speak at Abu Saeed University. Begum Rokeya University students were in the field since the beginning of the anti-discrimination movement. The sacrifices made by the students of this university will surely be rewarded. Referring to the July coup as the second freedom, he said, the government hopes that everyone gets the benefits of this freedom. Regarding the contribution of students in the difficult times of the country, he said that the students have repeatedly given their blood for the welfare of the country.
Students have rescued and led the nation in political crises. But the students did not benefit from it. Students got guest rooms, common rooms and slave life. This is why students are standing against student politics today. Regarding Chhatra League, the advisor said, because there was a fascist structure in the university, Chhatra League got so much power. Faculty, staff and administration of the university provide this power. Many people only blame BCL but do not speak against BCL associates
Warning of dismantling the fascist structure in educational institutions, he said that the university administration must play a responsible role. It should be ensured that political parties do not use students as party slaves. Along with this, the existing political culture should be changed. He also promised to influence the interim government to hold snap student council elections in every public university.
He assured to present the demands of teachers and students of Rokeya University properly to the government. Professor Dr. Begum Rokeya University Vice-Chancellor. In the discussion, various demands were presented including elimination of budget disparity in the university, establishment of research center, establishment of student council, infrastructural reform of the university. Md Maqbul Hossain, father of Shahid Abu Saeed, gave a speech as a special invited guest in the discussion. He demanded speedy trial of those involved in the killing of Shahid Abu Saeed. He drew the attention of the authorities to establish a hall named after Shaheed Abu Saeed in Begum Rokeya University.
A documentary on the killing of Shaheed Abu Saeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, was shown at the beginning of the discussion. At this time, an emotional atmosphere was created at the venue. After the seminar, laptops and checks were distributed among the students in collaboration with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ). Before the discussion meeting, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Begum Rokeya inaugurated the main gate of the university.
