Commemorative postage stamps and opening envelopes were released by the Postal and Telecommunication Advisor

Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Adviser Md. Nahid Islam on Wednesday (October 9, 2024 AD) in the office of the Post and Telecommunication Department at the Secretariat released commemorative postage stamps worth ten taka and opening envelopes worth ten taka on the occasion of World Postal Day. He also unveiled the cover of the special album Natural Beauty & Wildlife of Bangladesh Postage Stamps containing photos of rare postage stamps of the postal department. On the occasion of the day, the adviser in a statement congratulated everyone.
During this time, the Secretary of Post and Telecommunication Department, Dr. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman and the Director General of the Department of Posts, SM Shahab Uddin, were present.
It should be noted that on this day in 1874, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was formed with the participation of 22 countries in Bern, Switzerland. In 1969, in the 16th session of the Postal Union, the proposal to declare October 9 as the ‘World Postal Union Day’ was unanimously accepted by the organization to commemorate the day of formation of the union. Later in 1984, in a session of the Universal Postal Union held in Hamburg, Germany, its name was changed to ‘World Postal Day’.
