Brigadier General (Retd.) Adviser on Shipping and Textile Jute. M Sakhawat Hossain said that initiative has been taken to start automation in Chittagong port. Chittagong Port is the lifeline of Bangladesh.
If this port does not work and the mismanagement that was there is not removed, the lifeline of our economy will be difficult. For that reason, I have visited all the activities of this port for the last three days. If we can do automation from manual then container handling time will be reduced further. Earlier, a ship actually took 10 to 15 days to unload the goods. Now it has improved a lot. So we are not satisfied at all. Automation is in progress. If that is the case, the time of container loading and unloading will be reduced.
He said these things while talking to reporters at Newmuri Container Terminal (NCT) after visiting the Chittagong Port on Tuesday (08 October 2024) afternoon.
