Adviser on Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Sharmin S. Murshid said, We want to build a beautiful and safe future for children, but it is not only the responsibility of the government but also the responsibility of every citizen and institution. The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs is working to strengthen the child protection system. The advisor said this while addressing the chief guest at the function organized on the occasion of World Children’s Day and Children’s Rights Week 2024 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday (07 October 2024 AD). In the chief guest’s speech, the adviser sought forgiveness for the souls of the children who were martyred in the anti-discrimination student revolution in July. Consoling the parents, he said that the children were seeing 15 years of mess, all the injustices and lies. They took to the streets and protested and taught the people of this country with their blood. Made the country free again. He said, we are pained by the pain of those who gave their lives in the July uprising. We also want their justice. The advisor said, we are giving importance to improving the quality of education besides strengthening the legal framework.
On World Children’s Day, we pledge to build a society where every child is protected, able to develop fully. He gave prize bonds of 50,000 Takas and honorary crests to the family members of 105 children martyred in the anti-discrimination movement. Under the chairmanship of Women and Children Affairs Secretary Nazma Mubarek, UNICEF Bangladesh Deputy Representative Emma Brigham, two child speakers Fahim Rahman and Nazia Alam Mamta spoke as special guests. Tanya Khan, Director General of Bangladesh Shishu Academy gave a welcome speech.
