Trade advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed says, The role of leather industry in trade diversification is important. This industry has a lot of potential. The adviser to journalists said these things after the exchange meeting held with the representatives of Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leathergoods and Footwear Exporters Association and Bangladesh Tanners Association at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance on Sunday (06 October 2024 AD). Dr. Salehuddin said that leather industry has many potentials as well as some problems. We have discussed with the traders. Their tannery has been shifted to Savar. The environment, financing and certification issues for export abroad were discussed there. Overall we discussed the potential of leather goods and footwear industry. Mentioning the leather industry as completely domestic, the advisor said, its raw materials are domestic, while for garments, yarn has to be brought from abroad, cotton has to be brought. Fisheries and livestock have linkages with leather industry. We will encourage it.
