Thousands of families are destitute due to river collapse

Erosion of Meghna River continues in Hatia Upazila of Noakhali. Thousands of families are constantly losing their homes. Therefore, the locals have demanded the construction of a block dam to prevent the river from bursting. The concerned authorities have assured to take action.

On reaching the surface, the locals said that the Meghna river has been breaking in Hatia for decades. A large area of ​​the upazila has already been lost due to the erosion of the river. Houses, crops, trees have been lost in the river. Many have lost their homes in their grandparents’ homes. Thousands of families on the banks of the river are constantly in fear of being swallowed by the river’s coral.

The people on the banks of the river are spending sleepless nights worrying that the only source of livelihood may be lost in the river collapse at any moment. Therefore, the local residents demanded the intervention of the chief advisor of the present government, demanding the construction of block dams in Harni, Chanandi and Chairman Ghat areas to prevent river erosion.

The Executive Engineer of Noakhali Water Development Board Md. Halim Salehi assured to take measures to prevent river erosion. He said that many of our works are ongoing. Considering the damage after this flood, we are giving importance to river erosion. We will work as much as possible to prevent river erosion.

In order to protect the quality of life of the people on the banks of the river, the government will soon take the initiative to build block dams to prevent the river from breaking, it is the expectation of the residents of the river banks.
