Necessary measures are being taken to control the prices of daily necessities during Ramadan. The government has already withdrawn the duty on some goods. LC is deciding to raise the margin on import of essential commodities during fasting including edible oil, sugar, gram, pulses, dates. It will be possible to control the prices of daily commodities during fasting. Even though Dhaka has expanded since independence, till now Tejgaon and Kaptan Bazar are the only two places where eggs are found.
For the convenience of consumers, an initiative has been taken to sell eggs directly at 6 sub centers in Dhaka North City Corporation and 7 sub centers in South City Corporation from Sunday. Marginal farmers are allegedly suffering due to contract farming. Initiatives are being taken to make production and marketing easier by liberating farmers from the culture of receiving chicks, feed and vaccines from corporate institutions. Consumers and farmers are expected to benefit through this. The government has the authority and power to take measures on behalf of the people in a state owned by the people for the welfare of the people. So there is no reason to be alarmed if the government takes any initiative to break the syndicate.
Mohammad Alim Akhtar Khan, Director General of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the Shadow Parliament organized by Debate for Democracy on Saturday (November 09, 2024 AD). Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran presided.
Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran said in the speech of the President, The common man wants to ensure the right to vote as well as the right to rice. The previous government could not guarantee the right to vote or rice. People couldn’t vote, couldn’t escape the commodity price spiral. So people have placed a lot of hope on the interim government. We welcome the NBR’s decision to reduce duty on some essential commodities to keep commodity prices under control.
At the same time, it is hoped that the government’s decision to lift the LC margin on 5/6 products including sugar, wheat, edible oil to keep the commodity prices stable in the upcoming Ramadan is implemented quickly. We are captive to 6/7 corporate companies. Corporate companies are like boal fish, gajar fish. Wants to eat everything. From small and large products to media, newspapers, everything is under their control. All types of syndicates should be broken to control commodity prices and all traders should be given equal opportunities.
He also said that although there are syndicates in various professions and sectors of the country, there is no syndicate of the people. These black marketeers will flee if the people’s syndicate wakes up.
As the people rose up in the student revolution, the dictatorship fell. So people should raise voice against all irregularities. Voice must be raced. Then the black market will flee like a fallen government. There are many mistakes in our import policy. There are huge bureaucratic complications in importing the right product as per the demand at the right time.
