A madrasa student named Abdullah (14) died after being electrocuted by a fishing water motor in the river on his way home from an educational institution in Ishwarganj, Mymensingh.
On Friday (November 8, 2024 AD) morning, the fishing water motor kept in Shamukvhanga river near Itaulia village of Atharbari union of the upazila was electrocuted by the electricity connection.
According to local sources, Abdullah, son of Hazrat Ali of Itaulia village of Atharbari union of Ishwarganj upazila, is a fourth class student of book department of Darul Uloom Baishyapatra madrasa of Kendua upazila. Every morning Abdullah comes home from madrasa to eat. On Friday at 8 o’clock in the morning when the madrasa closed, Abdullah left for home. On the way, Abdullah was electrocuted as soon as he got there, when the locals connected the water motor to catch fish in the Shamukbanga river near the house.
Later, when the locals brought the rescue to Ishwarganj Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty declared him dead. After receiving the information, the police took Abdullah’s body from the hospital to the police station and sent it to the morgue for post-mortem.
Abdullah’s mother Azufa Akhter said, I had cooked bean curry and tomato soup for my son. The son will come from my madrasa and eat rice. Who will eat rice now? You return my only son Abdullah to me.
Mohtamim Azizul Haque of Darul Uloom Baishyapatra Madrasa said Abdullah was 1st in the merit list of the class. I heard the news of his death an hour after going home to eat after the madrasah break. We are deeply saddened by the death of talented Abdullah.
Obaidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ishwarganj police station, said that when the family members took Abdullah to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead. The body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Besides, other legal measures are in process.
