Shipping advisor calls for foreign investment in maritime sector

Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain said that the country’s shipbuilding industry is very promising and promising. Bangladesh is continuously improving its shipbuilding industry. The shipbuilding industry is also advancing in the private sector under the patronage of the government. We are developing as a shipbuilding nation. The present government is working intensively to develop the shipbuilding industry.

The advisor said these things in the chief guest’s speech at an event titled ‘Bangladesh International Marine and Offshore Expo-2024’ organized at Bashundhara International Convention City in Dhaka on Thursday (07 November 2024 AD). Urging foreigners to invest in Bangladesh’s maritime sector and shipbuilding industry, he said that there is a favorable environment for investment in all ports including Matarbari.

Chittagong port is being expanded. Construction of Bay Terminal and Laldia Char project has been taken up. Assuring the domestic and foreign investors that there will be no irregularities or negligence in any project, he said everything will be conducted very transparently and properly. Everything will be open.

Sakhawat Hossain said, we have 907 small and big rivers. Of these, 366 rivers are navigable. While many countries do not have sea ports, we have numerous river ports along with sea ports. Unfortunately we could not increase the sea communication. The government has recently taken various steps to increase sea connectivity. To reduce the suffering of the people, sea communication is being abolished in the isolated islands or districts of the country.

The ambassador of Denmark and the representatives of the Netherlands and Swedish embassies present at the event expressed their commitment to work together for the development of the maritime sector of Bangladesh, saying that their country is always on the side of Bangladesh. Organized by Saver International Limited, the three-day exhibition at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) will conclude on Saturday.

It showcases maritime engineering in the shipbuilding industry, offshore engineering and technology, ship recycling, ship-breaking equipment, ports and various related logistics and technologies.
The exhibition is open to all.

Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Materials) Rear Admiral Khandaker Akhtar Hussain, Danish Ambassador to Dhaka Christian Brix Moller, among others on the occasion. Andre Carstens, Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Netherlands, Lovisa Hoffmann, Head of the Political, Trade and Communication Department of the Embassy of Sweden and Director General of the Directorate of Shipping spoke.
