Cyclone ‘Dana’: The entire country’s maritime communication with Hatiya is closed

The low pressure over the east central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas has developed into Cyclone ‘Dana’. As a result of this, due to the inclement weather, the island of Noakhali upazila Hatiya and the district headquarters along with the water communication of the entire country is closed. On Wednesday (October 23, 2024) from 2 pm, all types of boat movement were stopped on the orders of the upazila administration. This was confirmed by Hatia Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Milton Chakma.

He said, as soon as the warning signal No. 3 goes on, it is asked to stop the naval communication. At the same time, fishing boats have been asked to proceed with caution.
On the other hand, due to the impact of the cyclone, light to moderate rainfall started in different areas of Noakhali from Wednesday morning. However, the rainfall increased slightly as the day progressed.

Senior Observer of District Meteorological Office Arzul Islam said that 20 mm rainfall has been recorded in the district in the last 24 hours. However, due to the impact of the cyclone, the amount of rainfall may increase slightly. For this reason, remote warning signal No. 3 has been asked to be displayed.

Meanwhile, due to the increase in the amount of rain since the morning, water has accumulated in the ditches created on various roads during the last flood. Also some low-lying areas experienced temporary flooding. Due to the sudden rain, the hardworking people are in trouble.
