Extensive preparations are being made to deal with cyclone ‘Dana’

According to the Meteorological Department, Cyclone ‘Dana’, which is located in the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, is moving towards the west-northwest and is concentrated in the same area (16.70 North Latitude and 89.40 East Longitude). It is 665 km south-southwest from Chittagong seaport, 600 km south-southwest from Cox’s Bazar seaport, Mongla was located 640 km south-southeast from the seaport and Payra 595 km south-southeast from the seaport. It may move further west-northwestward and intensify.

Maximum sustained wind speed is 62 km/h within 54 km of the cyclone center, increasing to 88 km/h in gusty or gusty form. The sea is very rough in the vicinity of the cyclone center.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has discussed cyclone preparedness with District Administrators of coastal districts and is maintaining round-the-clock communication with the aim of dealing with Cyclone ‘Dana’. According to Standing Orders on Disaster (SOD) district administrators of the coastal districts have taken extensive preparations to deal with the cyclone ‘Dana’. As part of this, on Wednesday (October 23, 2024 AD), the district administrators held an emergency meeting of the disaster management committee in their respective conference rooms.

Medical teams have been formed and CPP and Red Crescent volunteers have been kept ready in preparation for the cyclone. Besides, all the activities that need to be taken in advance to deal with the cyclone have been taken. Meanwhile, the upazila administration has been given necessary guidelines to be prepared to deal with any situation related to the cyclone.
