On the basis of specific complaints, a joint operation was conducted by the Capital Development Authority and the Department of Environment on the temporary structures built on the Gulshan Lake in the capital and adjacent areas. The operation was conducted on Tuesday (October 22, 2024) under the special guidance of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
During the operation, structures built illegally to encroach the lake, adjoining nurseries, tin shed rooms and encroached bamboo and nets in the lake were cleared and Gulshan-Baridhara Lake, declared an ecologically critical area, was cleared of encroachment.
Md. Kamruzzaman, Executive Magistrate of Capital Development Authority, led the eviction campaign. Department of Environment, along with Executive Magistrate Faizunnesha Akhter of the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Department of Environment, Dhaka Metropolitan Office Team, Rajuk Team, Gulshan Society Vice President Israt Jahan were present at this time.
Such anti-pollution campaign of the Department of Environment will continue.
