Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and the Ministry of Shipping, has instructed to display jute products in the embassies of different countries of the world including Middle East, Europe. he demand for jute and jute products has increased due to global awareness to prevent environmental pollution. Various countries including Dubai, Switzerland have expressed interest in using and importing jute products. The current government’s initiative to replace polythene with jute bags is increasing the demand for jute within the country. ‘
Sakhawat Hossain said these things during an exchange of views with officials after visiting Jute Directorate located in Motijheel of the capital on Tuesday (October 22, 2024 AD).
Adviser to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, M. Sakhawat Hossain said, calling for self-sufficiency through the production of jute seeds in the country, “There is a demand of about six thousand metric tons of jute seeds in our country, about one thousand five hundred metric tons of seeds are being produced in the country. The production of jute seeds should be increased through planning and projects and the production of jute yarn should also be increased. ‘
Director General of Jute Department (Additional Secretary) Zeenat Ara gave a brief presentation about the overall activities of the department and future plans. At this time Secretary of Textile and Jute Ministry Md. Abdur Rauf, Project Director Deepak Kumar Sarkar, Director Satyakam Sen, Deputy Director-Assistant Director and related officers were present.
