If the natural and marine resources are properly used, the country will no longer be poor

Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar said that due to the proper use of natural and marine resources, the country will become economically more prosperous – the country will not remain poor.
The advisor said this while addressing the Chief Guest at the EcoFish-2 project result sharing and close-out workshop of USAID at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental on Monday (October 21, 2024).

Farida Akhter said that increasing the food and nutrition of people is very important. We want to increase it through this project. The involvement of women in Ecofish-2 project is quite significant, if women become financially independent through this project, their empowerment will increase.

Mentioning hilsa fish as a great resource, the advisor said, the fishermen involved in protecting mother hilsa must also be protected. The government is trying to extend more cooperation so that the fishermen do not suffer especially during the prohibition period from October 13 to November 3. She called for more work on the ‘Ecofish-2’ project to protect hilsa fish and biodiversity in coastal rivers.

The advisor said, the way the various community members, experts and scientists involved in the Ecofish-2 project are working to build the country is commendable. The ability and potential of scientists should be utilized, they should be given dignity.
