Sadia Akhter (25), a pregnant woman, was killed in a head-on collision between a drum truck and CNG in Mymensingh. Meanwhile, 5 others were seriously injured. The accident took place at Sutiakhali area of Gafargaon-Mymensingh road at around 11 o’clock on Monday (October 21). Deceased Sadia Akhtar is the wife of Mohammad Tamim of Imambari area of Gafargaon upazila.
According to police and local sources, pregnant Sadia Akhtar was going to Mymensingh for a cesarean section in a CNG-powered autorickshaw from Gafargaon. On the way, the CNG auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a sand-carrying drum truck coming from the opposite direction when it reached the Sutiakhali end junction of Gafargaon-Mymensingh road.
Sadia died on the spot and five others, including her five-year-old child and the CNG driver, were seriously injured. Later local people rescued them and took them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Mymensingh Medical College Hospital police camp in-charge sub-inspector (SI) Md. Shafiq Uddin said the body of the deceased has been kept in the hospital morgue and the injured are undergoing treatment in different wards. Legal action is being taken in this incident.
