Adoption of action plan for implementation of food and livelihood assistance programs

Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq E Azam, Vir Prateek, said that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has taken up an action plan to launch food and livelihood assistance programs. This program will initially be implemented in 75 upazilas of the country.

Where more than 50 percent of the people live below the poverty line and suffer from various forms of malnutrition.
Under the programme, each family will be provided monthly food allowance of Rs 1,000 and livelihood assistance of Tk 2,000. This program will provide support to 75 thousand families in 75 upazilas for a period of three years. 819 crores will be spent in three years of implementation of the project.

The advisor said these things in the chief guest speech at the ‘Multilateral Discussion on Post-Flood Recovery and Rehabilitation Efforts’ organized by BRAC at the BRAC Center in Mohakhali on Wednesday (October 16, 2024 AD).

The advisor said that dealing with all types of natural disasters, including floods, requires the coordinated cooperation of all levels of people, including public and private organizations, NGOs, microcredit institutions and volunteers. The response of young students, volunteers, local public and public and private institutions to help the people of the August flood this year was incredible. At present, the biggest challenge is to eliminate flooding in Feni, Comilla and Noakhali. Steps will be taken to remove the waterlogging as soon as possible to restore the livelihood there.

Ahmed Ullah FCMA, Local Government Engineering Directorate (Dhaka Division) Supervising Engineer Md Sharif Hossain, Roads and Highways Directorate Supervising Engineer Md Zikrul Hasan, Public Health Engineering Directorate Additional Chief Engineer Ehteshamul Russell Khan, BRAC Microfinance Senior Director Arinjoy Dhar and others.
