To maintain the price stability of essential commodities and control the market situation, two teams from the Ministry of Commerce monitored two wholesale markets in the capital. During this time, the monitoring team fined several business establishments a total of 4,500 Taka.
The monitoring activities were conducted on Friday (October 11, 2024) at the Shah Ali City Corporation Market and the Shani Akhra wholesale market in Mirpur. The team at Shah Ali City Corporation Market was led by Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Ms. Fuara Khatun. During the inspection, the team monitored the prices of essential products including rice, lentils, potatoes, eggs, vegetables, and chicken.
The team members updated the price lists and verified the receipts for all purchases and sales. They issued warnings to several establishments for not displaying the price lists correctly and fined them 1,500 Taka. Shop owners and consumers informed the monitoring team that the price of eggs had decreased compared to previous days. Meanwhile, in the Shani Akhra wholesale market of the capital, the prices of eggs, onions, green chilies, chicken, and other essential commodities were verified, and the team urged for updated price lists to be displayed.
Several businesses were fined 3,000 Taka for not having updated trade licenses and for failing to display price lists. Officials from the Ministry of Commerce and various related departments were present during the operation.
