Considering the egg market situation and to keep the price stable, the government has approved the import of 4.5 Crore pieces of eggs for a limited period of time. On Tuesday (08 October 2024) this information was informed in a circular from the Internal Trade-1 Branch of the Ministry of Commerce. The Ministry of Commerce has allowed seven companies to import 4.5 Crore pieces of eggs to control market volatility. According to the order, the daily demand of eggs in the country is about 5 crore pieces according to the information of the Department of Livestock. Seven establishments in the country have been allowed to import eggs for a limited period of time.
Conditions to be followed for importation:
(a) Zoning/compartmentalization certificate/declaration should be submitted by the component authority of the exporting country in favor of bird flu free zoning/compartmentalization as per the guidelines of The World Organization for Animal Health
(b) Certificate of freedom from avian influenza or bird flu virus and harmful bacteria issued by the competent authority designated/authorized by the Government of the exporting country shall be submitted for each consignment of imported eggs.
(c) To comply with the payment of customs duties and other regulations prescribed by the Government. (
(d) Importation of eggs shall be notified to the concerned quarantine officer at least 15 days prior to shipment.
(e) A progress report shall be submitted to the Ministry of Commerce every 7 days after obtaining the import permit.
(f) The import permit will remain valid till 31 December 2024.
