Bagra is a village near the India-Bangladesh border about 22 km west of Birampur city. There are 12 speech impaired in the family of Sanatan (Hindu) religious brother Anil Chandra Sarkar and sister Sunati Bala of this village. Only reliance on Disability Allowance; Food does not come properly. Among them, Pradeep (18) is physically and speech-challenged, unable to move due to lack of a wheel chair.

Upazila Social Service Officer Abdul Awal said that out of 12 people, 10 are benefit-beneficiaries, the remaining 2 people will also be taken under the allowance. Physically challenged Pradeep will be given wheelchair on priority basis.

Birampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nuzhat Tasneem Aon said, considering the issue, there will be a sincere effort to cooperate for the two helpless families. He asks to contact someone who can speak for the bereaved family.

Local Binail UP Chairman Humayun Kabir Badsha said that he found out today that there are 12 disabled people in 2 families in his area. He thanked the media for playing a responsible role. He said that he would personally and on behalf of the Union Parishad support both the helpless families.

Brother Anil Chandra Sarkar himself, 2 daughters 1 son and their 4 children are 8 speech impaired. They are – Anil Chandra Sarkar (60), daughters Sohagi Roy (32) and Tapati (22), son Anil (35), husband of speech impaired Sohagi Roy, Foten Roy, ran away from his family for more than 1 year. Their son Sandeep Roy (18) and daughter Iti Roy (12) are both speech impaired. Speech impaired Anil’s 2 sons Apan (8) and Paran (5) are also speech impaired. Anil Chandra Sarkar’s sister Sunati Bala (70), his son Nepal Sarkar (45), 2 Nepalese sons Pradeep (18), Chandan (16) are speech impaired. Among them, Pradeep is speech impaired and physically challenged.

Lower and middle class families live in the area. So the locals say with pain that what they do for these 2 helpless families is insignificant compared to their needs. They called on the government offices and the rich people of the society to come forward to help these helpless families.

Speech-impaired Nepali wife Mallika said, only 4 people in 2 families are working, even they don’t always get work. Government allowances have helped a bit, but days are passing without food. People of the society will see us, they are also working people. She sought the cooperation of other government departments and those engaged in humanitarian work.
