Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that the government is giving utmost importance to environment protection in the formation of new Bangladesh. She said, want to start and leave all necessary good initiatives including forest conservation, pollution control. Urging the youth to join in combating the effects of climate change, he said that the role of the youth in protecting the environment is immense.
On Thursday (07 November 2024 AD), the environment adviser said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the seminar titled ‘Environment, Climate and Politics in New Bangladesh’. The seminar organized at Pani Bhaban in the capital discussed the challenges and opportunities related to environment and climate change across the country.
The advisor said that action plans are being formulated to decongest and de-pollute Dhaka’s canals. A working group has been formed for this purpose. The Ministry of Local Government, Water Resources, Land and Housing and Public Works is working together on this action plan.
Rizwana Hasan said, representatives of various organizations including Water Development Board, Inland Water Transport Authority, Department of Environment, River Protection Commission, City Corporation have been placed in this group. They will organize a workshop and develop an initial action plan. The final action plan will be submitted to the ministry by November 30.
BIP President Professor Dr. was present as a special guest in the event. Adil Muhammad Khan, RDRC Chairman Mohammad Ejaz, National Citizen Committee Ariful Islam Adib and Prothom Alo Special Representative Iftekhar Mahmud.
Government officials, environmentalists and young environmentalists participated and exchanged views in the event. The advisor then interacted with leaders of the Sustainability Alliance.
