Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq E Azam, Veer Prateek, said that after assessing the extent of damage caused by the recent floods in the country, the affected people will be rehabilitated through concerted efforts. The advisor said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the Flood Rehabilitation Committee meeting at the Ministry’s meeting room in Dhaka on Tuesday (October 22, 2024 AD).
The advisor said that the recent flood has caused a total loss of Tk 14 thousand 269 crore 68 lakh 33 thousand 522. The number of affected people is 9 lakh 42 thousand 811 people. Farooq-e-Azam said that the damage has been assessed based on the information received from various ministries, and the rehabilitation program of the flood victims has already started. Central committee, district and upazila committee have also been formed for this. The committee members will oversee the entire rehabilitation program.
The government has already given 7 crore 34 lakh cash in 19 districts affected by flood, 38 thousand 900 May. tons of rice,
38 thousand 500 packets of dry and other food, 2 thousand 315 bundles of cotton, Tk 69 lakh 45 thousand for household allowance, Tk 1 crore 80 lakh for child food, Tk 1 crore 80 lakh for cow food.
In addition, 85 crore 30 lakh 24 thousand 208 taka have been distributed with the help and cooperation of 163 micro credit institutions of the country to the flood affected people.
Farooq e Azam said that this year in the country due to the loss of crops due to floods this year, it has affected the market of daily commodities. He said that seeds have been distributed among the farmers so that the farmers can produce vegetables and other crops in a short period of time.
Among others, the secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, senior officials of the concerned ministries and representatives of NGOs were present in the event.
