By 2029, the first phase of the Matarbari deep sea port will be completed, said Brigadier General (Retd.), Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Jute and Textiles. M Sakhawat Hossain.
He said this after visiting the Matarbari deep sea port on Monday (October 21, 2024).

The advisor met with the representatives of JICA, Chittagong Port Authority, officials of various development projects including roads and highways in the administrative conference room of Coalpower. In the meeting, he was informed about the development work and plans of Matarbari deep sea port through video project. He provides necessary guidance to the concerned officers for timely completion of work. JICA representative assured that the work of the 1st page of Matarbari deep sea port will be completed within the stipulated time.

Later he visited Thermal Power Project, SPM Project, Matarbari Channel and Breakwater Project by Navy boat. During the visit, Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman, Shipping Ministry Additional Secretary Md Muhidul Islam, The managing director of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation along with officials of Chittagong Port Authority were present.
