Cornea transplant surgery for victims of anti-discrimination movement successfully completed

From the treatment of the injured in the anti-discrimination student movement to rehabilitation, the government will take care of the injured, said Health Advisor Noor Jahan Begum. He said, it is the responsibility of the government.

The advisor said this at a press briefing with reporters after the cornea transplant surgery of Israfil and Anik, two victims of the anti-discrimination movement at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital on Sunday (October 20, 2024 AD).

The Health Adviser inquired about the treatment of the injured in the Eye Hospital and visited various wards. Besides, the newly-operated Israfil and Anik’s family talk about the whole matter.
Supersensitive corneal tissue from Seva Foundation, USA, Nepal was brought to Bangladesh for cornea transplantation of two patients injured in anti-discrimination student movement. Earlier, an assurance of 40 corneas was received from Seva Foundation. Following this, for the first time, cornea transplants were performed on two people injured in the movement and the surgery was successfully completed.

Health Adviser Noorjahan Begum also said that we have to try to treat the injured in the anti-discrimination movement and bring them out of the trauma they are going through. Not only the Ministry of Health but me as an individual, you all must stand by them.

In response to journalists’ questions, the health advisor said, there are various stages of eye treatment. Eye treatment and surgery takes one month for some and six months for others.
In this way, if the eye condition is good, cornea surgery will be done. We have enough corneas ready. At this time, the director of the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital Dr. Hospital doctors including Khair Ahmed Chowdhury were present.
