Environment, Forests and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said climate finance, adaptation and mitigation strategies must be equitable and prioritize the most vulnerable populations.She said that the promised amount of 100 billion dollars should be increased to deal with the international financial crisis. Financial aid from developed countries may solve some financial problems, but it will not bring real justice.

The adviser said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the seminar titled ‘Road to Baku Cop29-Position of CSOs in Bangladesh on Climate Resilience’ held at the Department of Environment at Agargaon in the capital on Sunday (October 20, 2024 AD).

The advisor said that Bangladesh will take a firm stand on limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. She emphasized on adaptation measures and urged youth to be involved in the process.

In addition, he noted the importance of articulating international challenges and talking about ambitious mitigation initiatives. Ahead of the COP29 conference, he also highlighted the importance of active participation of civil society in Bangladesh.

Various CSOs, climate activists and policy experts participated in the seminar. The main objective of the seminar was to form a unified position of the civil society in Bangladesh before the COP29 conference. The seminar covered topics such as adaptation strategies, climate finance and their role in building climate resilience of local communities.

The COP29 conference strongly called for advocacy, so that the voices of vulnerable countries like Bangladesh are heard in the global climate talks. The delegates present hoped that Bangladesh would set an example in tackling climate change and building resilience.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdul Hamid, Director General, Department of Environment, Dr. SM Munjurul Hannan Khan, Executive Director, NACOM and ActionAid Bangladesh Country Director Farah Kabir spoke.
