A departure from history by canceling March 7 National Day

The notification issued by the Advisory Council of the Interim Government is that the decision to cancel the National Day on March 7 is wrong and a departure from the history of Bangladesh’s liberation war.

Bandabandhu’s historic March 7 speech at 71A Race Course reflected the national aspirations of the people of East Pakistan for their freedom struggle on that day and has gone down in history as a historic announcement of preparations for the liberation war.

The interim government does not have the power to change such an important day with the stroke of a pen. The Workers Party of Bangladesh clearly felt that March 7 had created the historical context for the birth of territory and the creation of a nation state in the name of Bangladesh.

Those who attempt to change the evidence of history will be accused by history itself. The Workers’ Party hopes that the interim government will reverse this wrong decision.

On Thursday (October 17, 2024), the Politburo of the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh gave the above statement for publication in the newspaper.

News release.
