On the occasion of Durga Puja, Sharmeen S Murshid, adviser on social welfare and women and children affairs, has conveyed festive greetings to all Hindu citizens of the country. She stated that Durga Puja is not only a festival of the Hindu community, but it has now become a universal celebration. The main characteristic of the Sharadiya Durga festival is the destruction of evil forces and the worship of truth and beauty.
Referring to Bangladesh as a country of communal harmony, the adviser noted that the constitution ensures equal rights for people of all religions and castes. The interim government, formed through an unprecedented uprising of students, laborers, and the public on August 5, is working to improve the fortune of everyone regardless of nation, religion, caste, or community and to establish equal rights.
The adviser also called for everyone to unite while maintaining the bonds of communal harmony to build a new Bangladesh free from hunger and poverty, and rich in happiness and prosperity. She mentioned that the law enforcement agencies are working to ensure safety during Durga Puja. Soldiers deployed in various districts are always active in ensuring security at the Puja mandaps. Additionally, alongside the law enforcement agencies, 84,000 volunteers from the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs will work as volunteers at 32,000 Puja mandaps from October 4 to 13. Every day, all officers and employees will serve at the Puja mandaps in three shifts of 8 hours each.
The adviser expressed the interim government’s expectation that the Sharadiya Durga Puja will be celebrated by the followers of Sanatan Dharma in a highly spirited and festive atmosphere.
