Water Resources Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, if Dhaka’s canals and rivers are not thought about then it will not be possible to save Dhaka.
In order to save Dhaka’s rivers and canals, an integrated action plan must be adopted and the real picture of each canal must be found. Immediate, mid-term and 3-year roadmaps and integrated action plans should be developed to protect rivers and canals. The advisor said these words in the President’s speech at a seminar titled ‘Blue Network Around Dhaka City’ at Pani Bhavan in Dhaka on Wednesday (09 October 2024 AD). The advisor initially laid emphasis on decontamination of several important canals of Dhaka. He emphasized on taking the program of de-pollution and de-encroachment of the canals and rivers of Dhaka by involving all concerned including Ministry of Local Government, Rajuk, City Corporation. Besides, he urged the concerned parties to be cost-effective in the implementation of the project to clear the canals of Dhaka from pollution and encroachment.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry Adviser AF Hasan Arif and Industries and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan spoke on the occasion.
