Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat said, the government wants disinformation, misinformation and rumour free mass media where the free flow of information will be ensured to make the government accountable. The government will reply to those questions and criticisms. “The State Minister said this at a meeting with Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) leaders at the conference room of the ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat thursday. The government wants to ensure space for mass media to question and criticize the concerned authorities and the government, but it must be based on factually correct information, Arafat said. He said, at the first cabinet meeting of the new government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed the cabinet members to take the criticism over the government’s failure and mistakes into account and take steps to correct those. She, however, instructed the cabinet members to remain aware so that the criticism based on malicious intention, ill-motive and agenda driven could not affect the government activities and asked them to continue works for the interest of the country and its people, Arafat said. Arfat also said, I want cooperation from all cencemeal on how we together can bring the ill-efforts of spreading misinformation and disinformation using mass media or other platforms under a solid structure,” However, criticism can never be made on the country, national flag, national anthem, the Liberation War and the number of martyrs in the Liberation War, he said, adding, these are anti-state activities.
